Family Loses Everything in Hillsdale House Fire

HILLSDALE, MO/January 5, 2017 (STLRestaurant.News) The St. Louis County Bomb and Arson Squad are investigating a late night house fire in Hillsdale that injured three children.

Firefighters were called to the blazing home in the 6500 block of Jesse Jackson Avenue, just off of Lucas and Hunt Wednesday at 9:45 pm.  It is believed that the fire started on the back porch.  All 9 people in the home were able to get to safety but the 3 children, one being only 2-days old, sustained minor smoke inhalation.

Fire Capt. David Mitchell, of the Mid-County Fire Protection District, was on the scene and said that one of the children smelled gasoline at the back door and notified an adult.  When they opened the back door, apparently flames burst through the doorway.

The home was completely destroyed and the family lost everything.  The head of the household, Darrell Russell, is a long time employee of Candicci’s Italian Restaurant & Bar in Ballwin.  Candicci’s will holding future fundraisers and a GoFundMe account has already been set up to help the family get back on their feet.

At this time, there is no word on what may have possibly caused the fire.  For additional information, contact Candicci’s Restaurant & Bar in Ballwin at 636-220-8989.

Candicci’s Restaurant and Bar Expresses Their Appreciation

BALLWIN, MO: (STLRealEstate.News) Candicci’s Restaurant and Bar, located at 100 Holloway Rd, Ballwin, MO, would like to express their sincere appreciation for the support of the community for two charitable events held over the recent summer weeks.

Candicci’s Restaurant was one of the participating restaurants that donated a percentage of sales on specific dates that benefited Ballwin police officer Mike Flamion and family.  Officer Flamion was shot on July 8th and the community quickly pulled together to help the family.  A few days after the shooting, it was announced that officer Flamion would require permanent medical assistance.  “The turnout was overwhelming”, says Bob Candice, manager of Candicci’s Restaurant.

Further, on August 8th, Candicci’s supported a charitable golf tournament to support Project Wake-Up in memory of Ryan Candice, son of Bob Candice and Denise Candice.  Friends of Ryan Candice has created a charitable foundation, Project Wake Up, to raise funds to pay for a film documentary that will help eradicate the stigma of mental illness.

They have created a GoFundMe Page with a goal of $150,000.  As of today, August 19, at approximately 8 pm, Project Wake UP has raised more than $103,000.  What the friends of Ryan Candice are accomplishing will make a difference in the lives of a lot of people.

While Candicci’s was not the organizer of either event, “I just want to help”, says Bob Candice.  Candicci’s involvement for the Dine Out project to benefit police officer, Mike Flamion was to contribute 20% of sales on three different business days and the contribution to the golf tournament was donating all food for the event, which was a huge success raising more than $13,000.

Full of emotions Candices’ comment was simple, but respectfully sincere, “all I can say is thank you and we will continue helping all we can,” says Candice.

Project Wake Up was created after Bob Candice and Denise Candice lost their son, Ryan Candice, to suicide.  Friends of Ryan created this charity, a federally recognized 501c3 non-profit organization, established to raise funds to pay for the creation of a documentary intended to help eradicate the stigma of mental illness.

Since Ryan’s passing, his friends have been busy educating the public about their loss, and what they want to accomplish to help deal with Ryan’s passing and to help prevent loosing anybody to suicide, now the second leading cause of death among teens.  An honorable ambition that has attracted much well deserved attention.

Candicci’s Restaurant to donate more money to Flamion family

BALLWIN, MO: (STLRestaurant.News) – Last week it was announced that several restaurants in the Ballwin, MO area had joined together to raise money for Ballwin police officer Mike Flamion.  Flamion was shot in the neck during a routine traffic stop.  We do not know the outcome of the other participating restaurants except for Candicci’s Restaurant and Bar, however, Candicci’s announced that they had overwhelming sales numbers that will benefit the family.

Candicci’s would like to express their sincere appreciation for the support that the community has illustrated to help Flamion.  “We want to do all we can to help the family,” say Bob Candice, manager of Candicci’s.

During the Dine Out event this past Monday additional information was released about officer Flamion’s condition.  Flamion’s condition was described as “catastrophic” and Flamion will require “extensive” long-term medical care.  The situation is tragic for Flamion and his family.

In a situation like this there is not such a thing as too much help.  In fact, the community should never stop helping the Flamion family.  In light of the new information about Flamion’s tragic condition Candicci’s has announced that they will donate 10% of sales this coming Friday, July 22nd and Friday, July 29th to Flamion’s family.  “We just want to help as much as possible and this is the way for us to do it,”says Candice.

For those that were not able to dine at Candicci’s this past Monday due to the overwhelming turnout, Candicci’s does apologize and have created two more days that you can visit them and know that a portion of the proceeds will go to help the family.   If you can’t visit Candicci’s on these two day you can visit the GoFundMe page to donate money.  The GoFundMe Goal is $325,000 and they have reached $276,440.
