Unveiling New Summer Salads at Panera Bread Co.
ST. LOUIS, MO: (STLRestaurant.News) – These days, with everybody living such a fast paced life, it’s sometimes easier to grab a meal on the run at a fast food chain because of convenience. But that isn’t the best option since most of those foods are full of fat, sodium, and definitely, excess calories. And with more and more Americans becoming health conscious and reading ingredient labels, it left an opening for restaurants like Panera Bread to step up their nutritional game.
In 2014, the popular American chain of bakery-café fast casual restaurants in both the U.S. and Canada, launched its clean food initiative with a goal of making its entire menu fresh and wholesome by the end of this year. Its “No-No List,” which was released last May, includes more than150 banned ingredients. The company intends on eventually offering a 100 percent clean menu, one free of artificial ingredients.. Besides their Power Menu, which is a variety of high-protein, low-carb entrees, Panera recently came out with three novel “clean” salads.
New this summer are the Green Goddess Cobb Salad with Chicken, the Chinese Citrus Cashew Salad with Chicken and the Watermelon Feta Salad, all with noteworthy nutritional stats. The Chinese Citrus Cashew Salad with Chicken features fresh pineapple and mandarin oranges, romaine lettuce, a Napa Cabbage blend and Soy-Miso Lime dressing. The Green Goddess Cobb is a modern take on a classic Cobb with a unique house made green dressing prepared fresh daily. And the Watermelon Feta Salad, available only for a limited time, is an arugula and mint base with cubed watermelon, ancient grains, feta cheese and roasted almonds with a champagne Dijon vinegar and extra virgin olive oil dressing.
In a post-Chipotle world where there is so much emphasis on food safety at all restaurants, you must admit, there’s something very alluring about a menu free of artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, and sweeteners.
