5th Annual Brew in the Lou Returns to Francis Park

St. Louis, MO/October 1, 2017 (STLRestaurant.News) – It began as a simple fundraiser for the Lutheran Elementary School Association (LESA), but Brew in the Lou has grown into an annual festival celebrating locally produced beer, wine, and spirits.  Now in its fifth year, the festival is returning to Francis Park on Saturday, October 14, 2017 from 1–5:00 p.m.  It will be the second year the LESA fundraiser brings beer, wine, spirits, food, and fun to the Lily Pond.

As in the past, this year’s event promises to showcase local, regional, and national craft breweries and distilleries.  Forty-five brewers and spirit makers are participating this year.  That list includes old favorites as well as several newcomers.  New this year are Wellspent Brewing Company and Center Ice Brewery, both in St. Louis, as well as Steampunk Brew Works in Town and Country, Crown Valley Brewery of Ste. Genevieve, Stumpy’s Spirits and Distillery in Columbia, Illinois, J.Rieger & Co. in Kansas City, and Ballast Point Brewery of San Diego, Calif.  Some local favorites returning this year include Square One Brewery and Distillery, Old Bakery Beer Company, Kirkwood Station Brewing Co., Hopskeller Brewing Company, Missouri Beer Company, Stubborn German Brewing Co., Six Mile Bridge Beer, Charleville Brewing Company, Heavy Riff Brewing Company, O’Fallon Brewery, Excel Brewing Company, Urban Chestnut Brewing Company, Granite City Food & Brewery, Shock Top Brewing Co., and Saint Louis Hop Shop.  The lineup also includes artisan beer and cider makers from Boston, Seattle, Chicago, Kansas City, Los Angeles, and more.

Brew in the Lou is certainly a great place to sample scores of craft beers and artisan spirits, but it’s also a celebration of great food.  Two dozen food vendors will be serving up everything from great pizza and barbecue to specialty snacks, delicious desserts, and even locally produced Ski Soda.  Old favorites like The Stellar Hog, Gobble Stop Smokehouse, Bootleggin’ BBQ, The Spotted Pig, and Nothing Bundt Cakes will be on hand.  And some new favorites will join in too, like Dogtown Pizza, Gallagher Brothers Pizza, Cronin’s Pretzels, Fallon’s Bar & Grill, and Noodles & Co.

Every year Brew in the Lou includes live music, and this year is no exception.  Festivalgoers will rock to the sounds of Nick Bifano & The Innocents, and get their Oom-pah on with the Deutschmeister Brass Band, a modern take on the traditional German brass band.  The festival will also feature art and craft vendors, the annual “People’s Choice” Home Brew Competition as, well as two fun food competitions dubbed “Battle of the Bratwurst” and the “Brew Chili Contest.”

One of the best parts of the Brew in the Lou festival is the all-inclusive wristband.  The $40 wristband ($50 day of the event) includes tastings of beer, spirits, wine, coffee, some great food, and a commemorative glass.  Wristbands can be purchased online at www.LESAstl.org or by calling (314) 200-0797. One of the other best parts: Brew in the Lou is a pet friendly event and your BFF (Best Furry Friend) gets in free.

Proceeds from the event benefit 35 LESA member schools serving 9,000 students.  Last year’s “Brew in the Lou” sold out for the first time in the event’s history and raised a record $91,000 for Lutheran schools in the St. Louis Metro Area.
