The celebration of Easter involves many special holiday customs such as fun Easter egg hunts, special holiday foods, and many different church activities.  Whether you’re a little kid getting excited about visiting the Easter Bunny, or one of the many adults planning weekend church celebrations or holiday parties with family and friends… it’s a wonderful time of year.

Most of us know that Easter is the celebration of Jesus Christ’s resurrection from the dead and is Christianity’s most important holiday.  But how did Easter traditions like the Easter bunny and Easter egg hunts come to be part of the holiday celebration?

Here are a few fun Easter holiday facts that you might not know:

The idea of the Easter Bunny was brought to the US by German immigrants who settled in Pennsylvania in the 1700s.

Germans believed the Easter Bunny was a white hare that would leave colorful eggs for good girls and boys on Easter Morning.

This first Easter Hunts started with girls & boys waking up Easter morning & building nests out of sticks & leaves so the Easter Bunny could leave them eggs.

The first edible Easter Bunnies were made in Germany in the early 1800s of pastry and sugar.

Easter is the second largest candy consuming holiday, with Halloween being the first.

Everyday 5 million marshmallow chicks and bunnies are made to prepare or Easter.

Peeps are the most popular non chocolate Easter candy with around 700 million peeps sold for Easter.

Jellybeans became an Easter tradition in the 1930’s and about 16 billion are made for Easter.
