STL Restaurants Band Together to Help Harvey Victims

Babies & Fur Babies Hurricane Supply Drive

St. Louis, MO/September 6, 2017 (STLRestaurant.News) – We are accustomed to St. Louis restaurants feeding our hungry appetites.  Now several have banded together to feed our collective souls, by enabling us to help those in dire need after Hurricane Harvey.  The Babies & Fur Babies Hurricane Supply Drive was the brainchild of three restaurateurs and a Missouri state rep. Tom Halaska (Demun Oyster Bar), Bob Brazell (Byrd & Barrel), and Max Crask (Ices Plain & Fancy) were looking for a way to help the most vulnerable victims of last month’s devastating Gulf Coast hurricane.  They teamed up with State Rep. Bruce Franks Jr., whose 78th district covers a large swath of the city including Old North St. Louis, downtown, Soulard, Benton Park, and the Cherokee Street restaurant district.

The group formed the Babies & Fur Babies Supply Drive to collect supplies needed for babies, and pets struggling to survive in the storm’s aftermath.  The team will drive the supplies to Houston on Sunday, Sept. 10th.  Hurricane Harvey is one of the most devastating storms in U.S. history, with at least 31 people killed, and more than 40,000 homes destroyed.  The human need is staggering. Animal rescue groups estimate the number of displaced pets in the thousands, with tens of thousands in need of food and supplies in the Houston area.

Once this coalition of St. Louis restaurateurs formed, it wasn’t long before word spread across the local restaurant community and beyond.  Soon dozens of other restaurants and local businesses signed up to serve as donation drop-off centers.  The group is looking for very specific items most needed, so they’ve provided a list, and ask donors to fill up their truck(s) with the following:

For Babies:
baby wipes
hand sanitizer
single serve formula
Pedialyte (single serve powder & bottle)
baby bottles

For Fur-babies:
dog food (wet/dry)
cat food (wet/dry)
first aid supplies
kitty litter
non-latex gloves
Dial soap
foldable wire crates

Donations can be dropped off at more than four-dozen locations across the St. Louis area, including dozens of restaurants, retailers, pet supply stores, and other businesses.  The list of drop-off locations on their Facebook page is updated as new establishments join the effort.  The list includes:
