Kickback at the St Charles Oktoberfest
ST. CHARLES, MO: (STLRestaurant.News) St Charles Oktoberfest – It’s once again time for those fun autumn festivals that emphasize partying and drinking loads of beer. Oktoberfest’s have been around for many years, dating all the way back to 1810, in Munich, Germany with the Royal Wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig, later to become King Ludwig I, and his bride, Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen.
In 1896 the beer stands were replaced by the first beer tents and halls with the backing of the breweries. Oktoberfest celebrated its 200th Anniversary in 2010, with only Wars and cholera epidemics briefly interrupting the yearly beer celebration. Today, the Oktoberfest in Munich is the largest festival in the world, with an international essence characteristic of the 20th century.
St. Charles celebrates Oktoberfest with a three-day festival at the end of each September that consists of German music, food and lots of beer. The event takes place in beautiful Frontier Park located off Riverside Drive in downtown Saint Charles between the Missouri River and the Historic Downtown District.
For the 30th Anniversary of this cherished event, you can expect to see five entertainment tents, 30+ beer selections, a Kids Zone, a Dachshund race, craft and food vendors, brat eating & stein hoisting competition. Also a 105/5K & 1M Run, and a vintage car show. If you haven’t made it down there yet, there’s still time to enjoy all the fun.
Saint Charles Oktoberfest Friday 4-11 PM, Saturday 10 AM-11 PM, Sunday 10 AM-5 PM
