National Fried Chicken Day
ST. LOUIS, MO: (STLRestaurant.News) – Fried chicken lovers, get ready for a treat! Sunday, July 20th, chicken lovers from all over St. Louis are invited to attend the Southern Fried Chicken Festival at 4 Hands Brewing Company, located at 1220 S. 8th St. The admission-free, family-friendly event, will consist of local St. Louis food vendors, local beers, sweets, live music, children’s activities and even a chicken eating contest each hour, on the hour, starting at 1. The chicken eating contest is a timed event that will allow five contestants to compete at a time, to see who can eat a half-pound of extra spicy chicken the fastest. Those interested in entering should register in-person at the event, on a first-come, first registered basis.
This festival came about after Southern co-owner, Rick Lewis, learned of people across the country celebrating National Fried Chicken Day, which is calendared July 6 every year. Lewis’ Southern restaurant, located at 3108 Olive Street in Midtown, offers patrons a unique Southern-inspired menu that includes snacks, sandwiches, chicken and fish plates and pieces and sides. So when he heard of National Fried Chicken Day, he knew this was an opportunity for him to showcase his Nashville style hot chicken.
Local vendors featured at the event include 4 Hands Brewing Co.; Byrd & Barrel; Elijah P’s (Alton, IL); Gallagher’s, Gus’s Fried Chicken; Hiro Asian Kitchen; Juniper; Old Standard; Southern; The Libertine; Ices Plain and Fancy; Strange Donuts.
