Missouri Bar and Grille
ST. LOUIS, MO/February 21, 2017 (STLRestaurant.News) Missouri Bar and Grille – You might call it “home away from home.” Missouri Bar & Grille, fondly referred to by regulars as “MoBar,” has been a pillar in St. Louis for over 50 years. Because of its close proximity to the Post-Dispatch and other thriving businesses, it quickly became a popular watering hole for reporters, newsmen, movers and shakers, and local major sports players, as well as, your average working man.
Owner, Trifon Panopoulos, came over from Greece in 1966 with his parents and two brothers, Louis 10, and Jim 3. Like many at that time, they were searching for a new life. He eventually became the manager of a restaurant and years later in 1983, along with then partner, Chris Dubis, opened his own place, Missouri Bar and Grille. He became sole owner a few years later and updated the name to “The NEW Missouri Bar & Grille”.
To the disappointment of many the pub closed down for a time after Trifon passed away in 2013, but thanks to Co-Owners/ Brothers, Louis and Jim Panopoulos, the popular haunt is back open for business and going strong. The two made the decision to honor their brother and keep his legacy alive. Now they are spending their days treating every person that walks through the door as though they were part of his family…just like Trifon did.
After more than a year-long closure, “MoBar” reopened for business with a revamped new look and a brand new concept. The old familiar drinking hole now has a refined, modernized interior and some fun new menu items. What used to be a cafeteria style restaurant is now a sports bar with delicious food.
Besides the updated kitchen and remodeled bar, the bar now has higher ceilings, new lighting and some enjoyable entertainment items like darts, a shuffleboard and a lively jukebox. The popular core items loved by so many from the previous menu, including the Trashed Wings, Steak Sandwiches, Gyros and House-Made Toasted Ravioli are still being served.
However, they’ve got some great new additions like the crispy, customizable Thin-Crust Pizzas sold in two sizes, 12 and 16-inch options. Each Pizza is offered in new combinations like the MoBar deluxe with sausage, pepperoni, bacon, onions, green peppers, mushrooms and black olives.
They also now serve a new item called “Jim’s Firehouse Burger”. This yummy sandwich features charbroiled Angus beef with BBQ sauce, mild Cheddar, Apple wood bacon and a fried onion ring. You can also expect to find tasty new appetizers, like Spinach and Artichoke Dip with Feta cheese served with Pita bread, and awesome Chili-Cheese Nachos.
The 3,500-square-feet of room accommodate 97 seats leaving plenty of room for all of the old time regulars and the new younger crowd they’re hoping to entice. And what better way than by offering fun happy hours with great discounted food and drinks? Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. enjoy specials on draft and canned beer, buckets, well drinks, wine, appetizers and pizza. Pitcher specials are also available during all Cardinal and Blues games.
On Thursday nights between 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. you can come in for a fun night of Trivia. So, whether you’re wanting a great meal, or are looking for a fun happy hour with good discounted food and drinks, Missouri Bar & Grille at 701 N. Tucker is where you might want to head.
