GOOD THINGS COME IN SMALL PACKAGES – PINT SIZE BAKERY & COFFEE

Pint Size Bakery & Coffee Honored by STL Mayor

ST. LOUIS, MO: (STLRestaurant.News) – Every fall, as the weather turns chilly, I find my own thoughts tend to drift to one idea…warm cookies.  Or if I’m anywhere near Lindenwood Park in South St. Louis, I dream of a warm brookie (a brownie with a chocolate chip cookie baked into the top).  There’s no place better to get that sweet combination of fudgy, buttery love than at Pint Size Bakery & Coffee, 3133 Watson Road, where they’re made every day, all day long.  You can smell the baking as you walk in the neighborhood.  The lines are sometimes all the way out the door—a situation much improved since they moved to their new, bigger location at Watson and Arsenal six-months ago!

Now, St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay and the St. Louis Development Corporation are recognizing the goodness of this fresh bakery by naming Pint Size Bakery and Coffee as the 2016 Neighborhood Business of the Year for the city’s 23rd Ward.  The honor was bestowed at the Mayor’s 2016 Business Celebration Luncheon last week.  This honor won’t be a surprise to Lindenwood Park residents.  They’ve grown accustomed to the neighborhood pride and sense of civic responsibility of bakery owners Christy Augustin and Nancy Boehm.  They’re frequently involved in activities that promote Lindenwood Park and improve the quality of life in the neighborhood.

Bakery founder Christy Augustin says she and husband Matt always envisioned a shop dedicated to serving the neighborhood.  One look at the original shop (3825 Watson Road) and it’s easy to see why this well-loved bakery had to move to a bigger shop!

Pint Size Bakery is well known for their dedication to baking the old fashioned way, using milk and cream from local, pasture-raised cows; eggs from small family farms; real butter; cane sugar and unbleached flour.  This is the quintessential small batch bakery.  Their motto is also their business model: small batch, from scratch, fresh daily.  That means every morning they bake fresh muffins, cookies, scones, etc.  If they sell a lot of cookies, they bake more.  By keeping the batches small, and baking throughout the day, they’re able to ensure that customers get the freshest baked goods available in St. Louis.  It also ups your chances of scoring warm cookies or scones any time they’re open—which isn’t every day.  Pint Size Bakery & Coffee is closed on Sundays and Mondays. They’re open Tuesday – Friday 7 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Customer reviews just rave about this bakery, consistently giving them 4.5 stars since they first opened in 2012.  And their customers can’t get enough of the bakery’s salted caramel croissants (a Saturday-only special) and homemade oatmeal cream pies—like the Little Debbie snack cakes, only so much better.  They’re also well loved for some specialty items unique to Pint Size Bakery, like their savory scones and muffins.  Imagine the buttery, delicate texture of a fresh scone laced with the flavors of bacon, Asiago cheese and just enough kale that you can tell yourself it’s healthy!  Or maybe you’d prefer a sweet and savory fusion, like the sweet potato & caramelized onion.  Have a muffin, if you prefer, like the BLT (that’s local bacon, spinach, sun-dried tomatoes, cheese & fresh herbs).  Oh sure, you can get sweets too!  They have scrumptious tea cookies, cup cakes, Lil’ bundts (like the spice cake filled with pumpkin butter and iced with cream cheese glaze), tiny tarts, cakes, and pies too.  They’re now taking orders for Thanksgiving pies!

Pint Size Bakery and Coffee serve Kaldi’s brewed coffee and espresso drinks.  That’s more of that dedication to locally and sustainably sourced products.  Their milk and cream comes from Rolling Leaf Farms in Edwardsville.  And all of their syrups are made in house, meaning their vanilla bean latte may just be the freshest anywhere.

As amazingly fresh and tasty as the food is, the real standout at Pint Size Bakery is the friendly service.  Their warm hospitality is well known by customers, and well loved.  One customer review even suggested that the Pint Size Bakery staff should offer a course in friendly service!  Kind of makes you feel warm all over…like a warm brookie and a honey spiced cup of Kaldi’s coffee with cream.
