Singin’ the Praises of Blues City Deli
ST. LOUIS, MO/February 8, 2017 (STLRestaurant.News) Blues City Deli – Online reviews have given small businesses that offer terrific value and service the opportunity to compete with larger restaurants and national chains that enjoy much larger advertising budgets. Thanks to Yelp, businesses can have a free platform on which they can market their offerings and collect feedback from their customers.
Most realize that customer feedback is everything. A recent Small Business Pulse survey shows that 96% of U.S. businesses say they collect customer feedback, and 82% of restaurants report using online review sites like Yelp to collect it. That’s higher than any other business category.
So, it’s no surprise that Blues City Deli is elated to have made Yelp’s Top 100 Places to Eat List for 2017. This is the 4th annual year for the list honoring eateries from across the US, nearly all of which have a perfect 5-star rating. Blues City Deli came in at No. 28 on the list and was also included on Yelp’s list in 2016.
What’s really interesting is that most of the businesses on the list are unpretentious eateries that offer their diners a no-frills type experience. Nearly three-fourths of the top 100 are fast casual businesses or food trucks where you can enjoy a meal for $10 or under proving that a restaurant doesn’t have to be fancy or famous to get 5 star ratings.
What are customers saying about this landmark deli in the Benton Park area? They’re saying that owner, Vince Valenza, knows what he’s doing. From the brick walls completely covered with primitive paintings of blues legends, the posters advertising long ago jazz concerts to the Delta’s music memorabilia… the place oozes with character.
The atmosphere is happy, loud, casual, and the small tables force diners to make new friends. There is live music almost every Thursday and Saturday, and the menu is a tribute to many of the blues music cities on the “Blues Highway.”
Here’s just a few of Blues City Deli’s most popular sandwiches:
The Valenza Special Muffuletta- lots of genoa salami, ham, Moraxella, provolone and mozzarella cheese and our home made olive salad on Italian bread.
The 7th Street Sicilian’ Po-boy- genoa salami, cappicola, pepperoni, and provel with lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion served on seeded baguette

Don’t be surprised to find there’s a sandwich at this deli for everyone. Besides all types of deli meats, they offer smoked meat, baked meat, and cooked meat, vegetarian and custom sandwiches. Whether you eat in or get your sandwich to go, just expect it to be wrapped in white butcher paper and stuffed in a plastic bag. And don’t be intimidated by that long line because it moves very quickly and will be well worth your wait.
