Big Bend Square Project Means Changes for Krieger’s Hometown Sports Bar

Twin Oaks, MO/September 3, 2017 (STLRestaurant.News) – Big changes are coming to everyone’s favorite sports bar and grill. The entire 11-acre site surrounding Krieger’s Hometown Sports Bar is in the process of being redeveloped into a mixed-use retail and residential complex.  The good news for Krieger’s patrons is that their favorite sports bar and grill is remaining open during construction.  The better news is that the project includes some exciting improvements at Krieger’s.

Weldon Springs-based Propper Construction Services is in the process of transforming the former Schnucks structure at Big Bend Square Shopping Center into a five-story mixed use building with ground-floor retail space and upper floor apartments.  Additional apartment buildings are also being built on the site.  When finished, there will be more than 200 apartments and around 45,000 square feet of retail space.  As part of the project, the strip of stores that includes Krieger’s is also undergoing a major facelift.  Krieger’s owner, Dave McDonald, says the changes are exciting. “It’s going to be beautiful when it’s done”.

Imagine your favorite sports bar and grill with a beautiful front wall of windows that open up to a gorgeous, heated patio.  Add an interior redesign that includes a cool new concrete bar and other customer-focused changes.  When finished, it’ll be fresh and new—yet keeping that great neighborly feel of the Krieger’s we all know and love.

Since taking ownership of Krieger’s Hometown Sports Bar about two years ago (Sept. 2015), McDonald has made several changes aimed at making this already popular spot even more customer focused and friendly.  McDonald brought in 44 flat screen TVs so no one misses a minute of the action when their team plays.  He also improved the bar program, offering a hefty 33 craft beers on draft.  Look for familiar local labels from Urban Chestnut, 4 Hands, Civil Life, Ferguson Brewing, Six Mile Bridge, and Schlafly, as well as regional favorites like Logboat Brewing, Public House, Piney River, Charleville, and Crown Valley Brewing.  There are also artisan brews from across the U.S., imports from Ireland and Australia, and all your AB favorites too.

One of the other big changes McDonald has made has transformed Krieger’s from a bar that offered mediocre food to a real dining destination.  McDonald nixed the frozen and packaged “instafood” used by many bars in favor of fresh, housemade fare worthy of his customer’s attention.  Everything from the homemade fried mushrooms and the housemade spinach and artichoke dip to the fresh pizza, gourmet burgers, and hand breaded chicken tenders is made from scratch daily.  Krieger’s handmade toasted ravioli rival any you’ll find in the St. Louis area.

Another big change under McDonald is Krieger’s Happy Hour—it may be the longest Happy Hour anywhere!  Customers in the bar can enjoy drink and appetizer specials from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday – Saturday and all day on Sundays.  There’s a late night happy hour Monday – Friday from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. too.

Late night diners will tell you one of the best things about Krieger’s under McDonald’s stewardship is that the kitchen is open until the bar is ready to close.  They serve their full menu until a few minutes before closing.  That’s a special feature that sets Krieger’s Hometown Sports Bar apart from other establishments.  And everything is available to enjoy in their dining room, or for carryout—even easier now that there’s a mobile app for that!  Just download the Krieger’s app from your device’s app store and you’re ready to place your online order.

Krieger’s is open Monday – Thursday, 11:00 a.m. to midnight, Friday – Saturday, 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. and Sundays, 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

The last two years have seen a lot of changes at Krieger’s Hometown Sports Bar, and the next few months will bring even better things, with some big surprises coming soon.  Best of all, you can munch on some of that delicious toasted ravioli while you watch the beautiful changes take shape—since your favorite sports bar and grill will remain open for business during construction.
