A Little Taste of Italy in Brentwood – Frank Papa’s Ristorante

Brentwood, MO/December 24, 2016 (STLRestaurant.News) – Every community has that one terrific restaurant that’s the “go to” place for a special night out.  It’s that place with the linen tablecloths, elegant ambiance, good service, good wine, and terrific food.  For Brentwood residents, that’s Frank Papa’s Ristorante at 2241 South Brentwood Blvd., just south of I-64.  Frank Papa’s is comfortably elegant. It’s one of those places where you wouldn’t normally wear jeans or shorts (although they would still serve you), but you don’t need a tux or suit jacket either.  Whether you’re planning a family celebration or an intimate dinner for two, this classy little Italian place is a great choice.  The decor is charming, the staff gracious, and the food is simply delicious.

That’s because Chef Frank Papa, his wife Diane, their sons Frank Salvatore and Anthony Douglas, and the restaurant staff are focused on creating great meals served with classic Italian hospitality.  For Papa, it’s in his blood.  He grew up around great food.  As a kid, he worked in the restaurant owned by his grandparents, Salvatore and Genevieve Papa.  He went on to earn a degree in Culinary Arts from Johnson and Wales University, and honed his skills in the kitchens of several very fine restaurants.  Frank opened his restaurant in 1994, and Brentwood residents (and visitors) have been reaping the rewards ever since.

The menu at Frank Papa’s is classic Italian with an American flare.  Their specialties span the entire Italian peninsula.  Start with one of the signature dishes, Scarola, a modern take on salad.  It is crisp, flash-fried escarole greens topped with Parmigiano cheese.  Follow that with something you won’t find at most Italian restaurants, a dish featuring wild game.  Whether it is fresh-caught Ruby Red Trout or Wild Boar Pasta, there is always something special on Papa’s menu.

From northern Italy, they offer a wide variety of chicken, steak and beef dishes including their luscious Veal Saltimbocca.  It’s thinly sliced, boneless veal sautéed with prosciutto ham, and served with melty fontina cheese and a white wine and sage sauce.  Or try the Risotto Milanese.  It’s beautifully creamy Arborio rice with porcini, portabella and shiitake mushrooms cooked with saffron, sherry wine, garlic and Parmigiano cheese.  From southern Italy, you’ll find expertly prepared seafood and pastas, including their classic Bruschetta Con Pomodoro made with Grilled Italian bread, fresh tomato and basil, a touch of garlic, and dressed with extra virgin olive oil and Parmigiano cheese.  Follow that with the Linguini Con Pesce, a long pasta with shrimp, scallops, and calamari all together in a lightly spicy white wine marinara.  Deliziosissima!

Pair Papa’s excellent cuisine with something from his equally excellent wine cellar.  The restaurant’s wine list includes more than 200 selections from the best wine producing regions of the world: California, Australia, Spain, France, Argentina, and Tuscany.  There are also super Tuscan varieties.  On any given day, at least 15 wines are available by the glass, but Papa’s servers can help you choose a bottle to share with friends that will pair well with everyone’s meal.  The wine cellar at Frank Papa’s is so special, they often host parties there.  The venue is a popular choice for rehearsal dinners and business gatherings of up to 22 guests.  The lower level dining area has that same, special ambiance.

Frank Papa’s Ristorante is open for dinner only, Monday – Saturday from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.  They’re closed Sundays. Reservations are recommended, especially on weekends and holidays. Gift certificates are available year round.

Whether you’re looking for the kind of place that can handle a large party, or an intimate dinner in a place that’s conversation-friendly with a casually elegant atmosphere, or just someplace with great Italian food, Frank Papa’s Ristorante is that kind of place.
