Uncorking a New Location – Louie’s Wine Dive
ST. LOUIS, MO: (STLRestaurant.News) – Whether you want to call it a Wine Dive or Wine Bar, the fact is, that Louie’s Wine Dive at 16 S. Bemiston, is a fun place to visit. The Kansas city-based chain had been looking for its first location in the St Louis market for the last couple of years, and they finally settled on the popular Clayton area. The company opened its very first restaurant in 2011, and now has locations in Kansas City, Omaha, Indy, Minneapolis, Des Moines and Iowa.
The owners, Whitney VinZant, and Corey Gonzalez, are former grade school buddies who set out to create a Brooklyn-style, neighborhood restaurant, one with exceptional graze food and a major emphasis on wine. A non-pretentious place that patrons could be comfortable, afford and would want to visit several times a week.
The décor was created to give off energy, and that it does. The concept of an open kitchen, nearby dining counter, blue leather booths, coppery globe lights and rustic upside down ceiling tiles, all successfully illustrate the envisioned ambiance. VinZant named the restaurant in honor of a former mentor, who’d always wanted a place called Louie’s, but died of cancer before that could happen.
Jon Meinz, formerly of Pi, Brasserie, and Pastaria, is the GM, along with Executive Chef, Patrick Baltes, formerly of Cardwell’s at the Plaza and Boundary, manning the kitchen, with the help of second-level Sommelier, Patrick Olds, formerly of Cielo at the Four Seasons.
The menu will consist menu of proven, signature items combined with a weekly, three-course, prix fixe menu, which is a multi-course meal offered at a specific price for all the courses. Creative “gourmet comfort food,” is how VinZant and his partner like to think of. A couple examples are the delectable Steak Deburgo, and Emily’s Apple Harvest, a popular salad with chicken, field greens, apples, cranberries, bacon, goat cheese, candies pecans, and balsamic vinaigrette.
Wine connoisseurs can be pleased to find 120 to 150 bottles gracing the wine list, and 55 to 60 of those by the glass. Whether you want a seat inside or simply to relax on the expansive patio, seating is first come, first serve. However, in the future, watch for their NoWait system, an app that allows customers to jump onto a restaurant’s waiting list from their mobile device.
